What is an Instagram takedown?
An Instagram takedown is the removal of an account, profile or single piece of content, either by Instagram or by its owner. Name the rule

File it

Stop there

How to get a fake Instagram account taken down
Use the impersonation report. The help page sets the path: the options menu next to the username, Report, Report account, "It's pretending to be someone else", then who is copied: you, someone you follow, a public figure or a business. With no account, or when acting for your child, go through Meta.

How to take down your Instagram account
An owner uses Accounts Centre, not a report. BanService has no role here and never needs your login.
Hacked: start at instagram.com/hacked, then a login link, then a support request from an inbox only you can reach. Accounts with photos of you can require a video selfie.
Old or inactive: use a login link sent to the old email or phone, then delete, because the deletion page requires a login. Meta's Account Integrity policy lists "Empty accounts with prolonged dormancy" only as a case for requesting more information, not a removal promise.
Paused or deleted: temporary deactivation hides your photos, comments and likes until you log back in, once a week at most.
Tap More, Settings, Accounts Centre, then Manage account (or Personal details and Account ownership and control), choose Deactivation or deletion, select the profile, then Deactivate account or Delete account. Export your information first. Deletion turns permanent 30 days after the request and can take up to 90 days to finish; the cancel window "varies by region".
How to take down a post, story or reel you posted
Delete it from the item's menu, with no report. For a photo, reel or video, Instagram's delete steps are: choose the post, tap Options above it, tap Delete, then Delete again. That page gives no steps for one photo inside a multi-photo post.
A story need not expire first: tap Your story at the top of Feed, More on iPhone or Options on Android, then delete and confirm. For a comment, tap and hold it, then Delete.
Deleted items sit in Recently deleted for 30 days, or up to 24 hours for stories outside your archive.
Copyrighted music and take down notices
Instagram can act on music: Meta's music guidelines say content using other people's music without permission may be blocked, muted or removed. A notice is what a poster gets after a rights report, and the Help Center lists its contents: a claim identifier, the claimant's name, the reporter's email, a summary and appeal instructions.
A DMCA removal made by mistake or misidentification can get a counter-notification, which can take up to 14 working days; other removals go to appeal. Only a rights owner or authorised representative can file, a knowing misrepresentation creates liability under 17 U.S.C. 512(f), and BanService works this route only with that authorisation.
